What Makes a Hotel Truly Pet Friendly?

Many travelers who are also pet owners seek out pet-friendly hotels- a cat/dog-friendly hotel to accommodate their furry members. Around 47% of Americans own a dog, and 37% of people own a cat. The pet care spending in 2018 broke the record with about $72.56 billion, with a 4 % increase over the 2017 spendings.

With the growing pet owners traveler around the world, they can often be seen at a pe friendly chain going round and about in the lobby with their furry friend. However, not all the accommodation claiming pet friendly may meet your and your pet’s expectations. So then what makes a hotel truly pet friendly?

To determine if the hotels and its policies are truly pet friendly there are some key points to look for:-

  • Reasonable Pet Fees– the motel or hotel should not levy a very high one-time housekeeping fee; sometimes, it is as high as $250 for a pet-owning guest. The fees of up to $25 are totally acceptable for a one-time cleaning.

  • Daily Pet affordable Fees– a truly pet-friendly hotel will not charge an outstanding “daily pet fee.” This can be up to $100+ per diem and is many times added to housekeeping charges. $10-$25 per day is acceptable and is commonly a norm, and a true pet friendly does not charge any extra.

  • Minimal Restrictions- a truly pet-friendly hotel will not apply too many restrictions on you or your pet. You will be told a few rules to follow like do not leave the pet alone in the room, and if you must then hire pay for the pet sitter provided by the hotel. And one more demand would be to keep the pet in the crate when left alone in the room.

  • Room Location– a truly pet-friendly hotel would not separate the pet-owning guest from non-pet guests, or will not accommodate you in a sub-standard section or room.

  • Cat-friendly hotels– a pet-friendly hotel will not turn a cold shoulder on cat pet owners and have no such rules as only dog owners allowed. People have a lot of different pets other than dogs and cats, like a rabbit, guinea pigs, turtles, and so much more. When the travelers have to make a night stop, the pet will also stay with them in the room.
